The AIMday concept has been used in several areas, including cancer research, diagnostics, materials science, aging and imaging. It has proven to be an effective tool for generating new contacts, new ideas and new approaches to solving problems - driving innovation forward.
AIMday was initiated and successfully developed by Uppsala University in Sweden. Innovation Enterprise has signed a collaboration agreement with Uppsala University with the purpose of implementing the AIMday concept in North America.

Inspiration and Insight
Bringing compentencies together in tailor-made discussions is key to identifying areas of common interest. Many collaborative projects are started this way.
During AIMday there are ample opportunities for networking and spontaneous meetings. Many beneficial contacts are made.
Every question is discussed for one hour, no more, no less. The size of the group is small, five to ten people, including industry representatives and researchers from various disciplines.

AIMday™ IoT 2019
We are pleased to announce that industry registration for AIMday™ IoT 2019 is now open. This event will focus on the exciting world of Internet of Things (IoT)! It will be a unique opportunity for industry and academia to come together to tackle the latest challenges in IoT. The event will take place on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon.

AIMday™ AgTech 2018
During AIMday™AgTech, on October 31st, companies and researchers came together to discuss technology-based solutions to challenges facing the agriculture industry in order to increase productivity, improve production efficiency and enhance sustainability of the agricultural industry. Some of the questions that were discussed were - What is the scope for genomics to improve crops frost tolerance? What impacts will Blockchain have on the agricultural industry? What are the most cost effective and precise methods for determining plant health and diagnosing issues?
Here are the results from this event:
- 43 questions were submitted by industry
- 61 researchers and 32 representatives from 17 companies registered
- 24 workshops took place during the day
- 55 research applications were submitted by academics in response to 24 questions
- 17 applications were selected by industry for funding to develop project proposals
Canadian AIMday™ Hub

AIMday™ Big Data 2018
Innovation Enterprise, in collaboration with Innovation Saskatchewan, the University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic, held the third AIMday™ on April 11, 2018 with a focus on Big Data. Questions posed by industry ranged from how to better use Saskatchewan-grown crops for health and wellness applications, improve short-term weather forecasting, optimize insurance pricing models using machine learning, and use big data to increase workplace safety in mining and manage policing resources.
Here are the results from this day:
- 22 questions were submitted by industry
- 53 researchers and 30 representatives from 12 companies attended
- 21 workshops took place during the day
- 55 research applications were submitted by academics in response to 21 questions
- 16 applications were selected for funding to develop project proposals
AIMday™ Imaging 2017
In October 2017, Innovation Enterprise, in collaboration with Innovation Saskatchewan, the University of Regina, Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the Canadian Light Source, hosted a very successful second AIMday™ with a focus on Imaging. Companies, organizations and academic researchers discussed global challenges in agriculture, health care, and mining, and how imaging research techniques could help solve them.
The results of this day speak for themselves:
- 29 questions were submitted by industry
- 50 researchers and 22 representatives from 10 companies attended
- 29 workshops took place during the day
- 69 research applications were submitted by academics in response to 26 questions
- 24 applications were selected for funding to develop project proposals
AIMday™ Minerals 2017
In March 2017, Innovation Enterprise and the International Minerals Innovation Institute jointly hosted AIMday™ Minerals 2017, the first AIMday™ in North America. The event was in collaboration with the University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic. AIMday™ Minerals 2017 focused on finding solutions to a wide variety of mining sector questions and problems, ranging from reduced reliance on fossil fuels and more green energy sources, to developing new methods of detecting potential pipeline breaks before they occur.
Industry representatives and academic researchers welcomed the meeting concept and the results speak for themselves:
- 26 questions were submitted by industry
- 39 researchers and 17 representatives from 5 major mining companies attended
- 21 workshops took place during the day
- 55 research applications were submitted by academics
- 17 applications were selected for funding to develop project proposals
