Food Animal Production

Research and graduate training focuses on breeding, feeding, health and welfare of food animals. This includes beef and dairy cattle, pigs, poultry, and fish (such as trout, salmon and tilapia).

Studies focus on nutrition and metabolism, feed development, processing and evaluation, with particular emphasis on crops and byproducts produced on the Canadian Prairies (cereals, oilseeds, and pulses). Robust research programs are also underway in genetics, animal physiology, and production management.

Selected analytical and other services such as feed formulation and pilot plant production are provided on a fee-for-service or contract basis.
