Poultry Centre

Housed in the Department of Animal and Poultry Science, the Poultry Research and Teaching Unit’s Poultry Centre is the base for teaching and research related to poultry. The facility consists of about 3000 square metres of space, featuring a hatchery, Gnotobiotic Animal Research facility, brooding and rearing barn, adult barn and a turkey research facility. With a maximum capacity of about 43,000 birds per year, the Poultry Centre uses broilers, White Leghorns, pure chicken breeds and commercial turkeys. Research focuses on nutrition, novel feed ingredient use, and behavior and welfare of poultry species.
