About the Signature Area

Quantum technology has the immense potential to address grand challenges of our modern era, if it can be understood, harnessed and applied in a manner that is scalable, sustainable and secure. Through the Quantum Innovation Signature Area of Research, the University of Saskatchewan (USask) is bringing together world-leading quantum scientists, exceptional graduate and postdoctoral researchers, and an invaluable interdisciplinary approach to push the boundaries of both fundamental quantum science and quantum technology development.

Quantum Innovation will empower USask researchers to change the way we compute, the way we see and detect the world around us and the way we communicate with one another in order to be what the world needs.

Notable Areas of Research

  • Developing new materials to power quantum devices
  • Utilizing quantum computing capabilities to address complex problems from climate change strategies to vaccine development
  • Embracing sensing and imaging capabilities for healthcare, environmental, and geological applications
  • Strengthening data security for all scales of end users, from individuals to governments
  • Enabling communication across vast distances with next-generation technologies utilizing quantum principles
